When & How to Plant Tulip Mount Tacoma Bulbs
Plant in Fall for a Spectacular Display of Fragrant White Spring Flowers!
For an unforgettable display of luxurious white blooms, plant your Tulip Mount Tacoma bulbs in fall, once soil temperatures have cooled and before the ground freezes.
In Maryland and other Zone 6–7 gardens, October through November is generally an excellent planting window.
Planting Instructions
- When to Plant: Fall, typically October through November in Maryland.
- Planting Depth: Approximately 6–8 inches deep, measured from the base of the bulb.
- Bulb Spacing: 4–5 inches apart for a beautiful, full display.
- Planting Position: Place bulbs with the pointed end facing upward.
- Sunlight: Full sun, ideally at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and provide moderate moisture during active spring growth.
- Bloom Time: Late Spring.
After flowering, remove spent blossoms if desired, but allow the foliage to naturally yellow and die back before trimming it. This helps the bulbs store energy for future growth.
Helpful Planting Tip: Double Late Tulips produce especially large, heavy flowers. Plant Mount Tacoma in a location protected from strong winds and heavy spring rain to help keep its beautiful blooms looking their best.
Although tulips are botanically perennial, many large-flowered Double Late varieties perform best in their first spring. For consistently spectacular displays, gardeners often plant fresh bulbs each fall.
Our Cottage Garden Tip
Create a dreamy white spring garden filled with romantic blooms!
For an enchanting display, plant Tulip Mount Tacoma bulbs in generous groups of 10–15 or more, allowing their luxurious white flowers to create soft clouds of color throughout your garden.
For an elegant all-white garden, pair Mount Tacoma with white daffodils, white grape hyacinths, and other spring-flowering bulbs to create layers of fresh, luminous blooms.
Want a little more drama? Combine these gorgeous white double tulips with deep purple tulips, burgundy spring flowers, or soft pink blooms for a striking yet romantic cottage garden combination.
Their pure white petals also look especially beautiful against silvery-green foliage and fresh spring greenery.
For a spectacular cutting garden, plant Mount Tacoma alongside blush pink and lavender tulips to create elegant spring bouquets.
And don't overlook containers! A generous grouping of these beautiful white peony-flowering tulips in a decorative planter makes a stunning statement near a front door, patio, or garden bench.
Maryland Gardeners: Tulip Mount Tacoma is well suited to Maryland's winter temperatures and typically performs beautifully when planted in fall. Choose a sunny, well-drained location and avoid areas where bulbs may sit in water during wet winters.
Important: Tulip bulbs and plants are toxic if ingested. Keep them away from pets and children.
