When & How to Plant Tulip Monte Prix Bulbs
Plant in Fall for a Spectacular Display of Romantic Pink Spring Flowers!
For the most beautiful display of luxurious pink blooms, plant your Tulip Monte Prix bulbs in fall, once soil temperatures have cooled and before the ground freezes.
In Maryland and other Zone 6–7 gardens, October through November is generally an excellent planting window.
Planting Instructions
- When to Plant: Fall, typically October through November in Maryland.
- Planting Depth: Approximately 6–8 inches deep, measured from the base of the bulb.
- Bulb Spacing: 4–6 inches apart for a beautiful, full display.
- Planting Position: Place bulbs with the pointed end facing upward.
- Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight preferred for strong flowering.
- Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and provide moderate moisture during active spring growth.
- Bloom Time: Mid to Late Spring.
After flowering, remove spent blossoms if desired, but allow the foliage to naturally yellow and die back before trimming it. This helps the bulbs store energy for future growth.
Helpful Planting Tip: Double Flowering Tulips produce especially large, heavy blossoms. Plant Monte Prix in a location protected from strong winds and heavy spring rain to help keep its gorgeous blooms looking their best.
Although tulips are botanically perennial, many large-flowered Double Tulip varieties perform best in their first spring. For consistently spectacular displays, gardeners often plant fresh bulbs each fall.
Our Cottage Garden Tip
Create a dreamy pink spring garden overflowing with peony-like blooms!
For a breathtaking display, plant Tulip Monte Prix bulbs in generous groups of 10–15 or more, allowing their luxurious pink flowers to create beautiful clouds of color throughout your garden.
Pair Monte Prix with creamy white tulips, soft lavender spring flowers, pale yellow daffodils, or delicate blue grape hyacinths for a romantic cottage garden combination.
Its vibrant pink petals and cheerful yellow accents look especially beautiful alongside fresh green foliage and soft pastel spring blooms.
Want a little more drama? Combine Monte Prix with deep purple tulips or rich burgundy spring flowers for a striking contrast.
And don't forget the cutting garden!
These gorgeous double pink peony-flowering tulips make spectacular additions to fresh spring bouquets. Their full, romantic blossoms bring beautiful color and luxurious texture to floral arrangements.
For an elegant spring centerpiece, combine Monte Prix with blush pink tulips, creamy white flowers, and fresh greenery.
Container Gardeners: Tulip Monte Prix is also a wonderful choice for decorative spring planters. Plant bulbs closely enough for a full display while allowing adequate room for growth and drainage.
Maryland Gardeners: Tulip Monte Prix is well suited to Maryland's winter temperatures when planted in fall. Choose a sunny, well-drained location and avoid areas where bulbs may sit in water during wet winters.
Because Double Tulips can have large, heavy flowers, a sheltered location can help protect their beautiful blooms from strong spring winds and rain.
Important: Tulip bulbs and plants are toxic if ingested. Keep them away from pets and children.
