When & How to Plant Dancing Passion Tulip Bulbs
Plant in Fall for a Spectacular Finale of Purple Spring Flowers!
For a breathtaking display of luxurious violet-purple blooms, plant your Dancing Passion Tulip bulbs in fall, once soil temperatures have cooled and before the ground freezes.
In Maryland and other Zone 6–7 gardens, October through November is generally an excellent planting window.
Planting Instructions
- When to Plant: Fall, typically October through November in Maryland.
- Planting Depth: Approximately 6–8 inches deep, measured from the base of the bulb.
- Bulb Spacing: 4–6 inches apart for a beautiful, full display.
- Planting Position: Place bulbs with the pointed end facing upward.
- Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight preferred.
- Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and provide moderate moisture during active spring growth.
- Bloom Time: Late Spring.
After flowering, remove spent blossoms if desired, but allow the foliage to naturally yellow and die back before trimming it. This helps the bulbs store energy for future growth.
Helpful Planting Tip: Double Late Tulips produce especially large, heavy flowers. Plant Dancing Passion in a location protected from strong winds and heavy spring storms to help keep its beautiful blooms looking their best.
Although tulips are botanically perennial, large-flowered Double Late varieties often perform best in their first spring. For consistently spectacular displays, many gardeners treat them as annuals and plant fresh bulbs each fall.
Our Cottage Garden Tip
Let Dancing Passion steal the spotlight!
For a truly dramatic display, plant Dancing Passion Tulip bulbs in generous groups of 10–15 or more, allowing their rich violet-purple flowers to create bold splashes of color throughout your garden.
Pair these luxurious double tulips with soft pink tulips, creamy white daffodils, purple alliums, or delicate white spring flowers for a romantic cottage garden combination.
Their deep purple coloring also looks especially beautiful against fresh green foliage and silvery-leaved perennials.
For a spectacular cutting garden, plant Dancing Passion alongside other late-season tulips in shades of blush pink, lavender, and white to create elegant spring bouquets.
And don't overlook containers! A generous grouping of these ruffled purple beauties in a decorative planter makes an unforgettable spring statement near a front door, patio, or garden bench.
Maryland Gardeners: Dancing Passion Tulips are well suited to Maryland's winter temperatures and typically perform beautifully when planted in fall. Choose a sunny, well-drained location and avoid areas where bulbs may sit in water during wet winters.
Important: Tulip bulbs and plants are toxic if ingested. Keep them away from pets and children.
