Billowing peach-pink petals, luxurious amethyst-purple ruffles, and a whole lot of cottage garden WOW!
Step into a world of old-fashioned romance, elegant ball gowns, and breathtaking garden beauty with Florentine Silk Bearded Iris!
This magnificent Tall Bearded Iris looks as though it belongs in the gardens of a grand European palace. Its extraordinary blossoms feature soft, peachy-pink upper petals, known as standards, gracefully rising above richly colored royal purple and amethyst lower petals, called falls.
The combination is simply enchanting!
Each flower is adorned with beautiful ruffles, delicate folds, and flowing petals that resemble layers of luxurious silk. The warm peach-pink standards contrast spectacularly with the deep purple falls, creating a sophisticated two-tone display that feels both dramatic and romantic.
Growing approximately 34–40 inches tall when in bloom, Florentine Silk makes an unforgettable statement in cottage garden borders, perennial beds, and dedicated Iris gardens.
And there's even more to love!
Florentine Silk is a reblooming Bearded Iris, with the potential to produce another flush of flowers later in the growing season under favorable conditions.
Its primary flowering season is generally mid to late spring, while rebloom may occur later in summer or fall depending on climate, plant maturity, moisture, and growing conditions.
This gorgeous perennial is also wonderfully resilient. Once established, Florentine Silk Bearded Iris is drought-tolerant, making it an excellent choice for sunny, well-drained garden spaces.
Deer and rabbits also tend to leave Bearded Iris alone, adding to their appeal for gardeners who want beautiful flowers without constant maintenance.
Whether you're creating a romantic cottage garden, designing a colorful perennial border, or collecting spectacular reblooming Iris varieties, Florentine Silk Bearded Iris rhizomes deliver timeless elegance and extraordinary garden presence.

When & How to Plant Florentine Silk Bearded Iris Rhizomes
Plant for a Spectacular Display of Romantic Peach Pink & Purple Flowers!
For the best results, plant your Florentine Silk Bearded Iris rhizomes in a sunny location with excellent drainage.
Unlike tulips or daffodils, Bearded Iris grow from thick rhizomes that should be planted close to the soil surface rather than buried deeply.
In Maryland and other Zone 6–7 gardens, late summer through early fall is generally an excellent time to plant or divide Bearded Iris.
Planting Instructions
- When to Plant: Late summer to early fall is preferred, allowing roots to establish before winter. Spring planting is also possible.
- Planting Depth: Position the rhizome horizontally with its upper surface at or just above soil level. In hot climates, a very light covering may be appropriate.
- Rhizome Spacing: Approximately 12–18 inches apart to allow for mature growth and good air circulation.
- Planting Position: Spread the roots downward into the soil while keeping the rhizome near the surface.
- Sunlight: Full sun is best, ideally at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Light shade may be tolerated.
- Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged conditions.
- Watering: Water after planting and periodically during establishment. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than keeping the soil constantly moist.
- Primary Bloom Time: Mid to late spring.
- Potential Rebloom: Late summer to fall when conditions are favorable.
After the main flowering period, remove spent flower stalks if desired, but leave healthy foliage in place so the plant can continue storing energy.
Keep the rhizome exposed to sunlight and avoid piling mulch directly over it, which can encourage rot.
Helpful Planting Tip: Bearded Iris perform best when their rhizomes are not crowded. Divide established clumps approximately every 3–5 years, or whenever flowering begins to decline.
Encouraging Florentine Silk Iris to Rebloom
Want a second round of gorgeous peach and purple flowers?
Florentine Silk is valued for its reblooming potential, particularly in Zones 5–10. However, repeat flowering depends on several factors and may vary from year to year.
To encourage rebloom:
- Provide Plenty of Sunshine: Aim for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Maintain Good Drainage: Avoid consistently wet soil or deeply buried rhizomes.
- Water During Extended Dry Spells: Although established plants tolerate drought, adequate moisture during active growth can help support rebloom.
- Avoid Excess Nitrogen: Too much nitrogen can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
- Allow Plants to Establish: Newly planted rhizomes may need time to mature before producing their strongest flowering displays.
- Divide Crowded Clumps: Give plants room to develop healthy rhizomes and flowering fans.
Rebloom is a wonderful bonus, but it should not be considered guaranteed in every garden or growing season.
Our Cottage Garden Tip
Create a romantic Iris garden worthy of a royal ballroom!
For a breathtaking display, plant Florentine Silk Bearded Iris rhizomes in groups of 3–5 or more, allowing their gorgeous peach-pink and royal purple blossoms to become the stars of your perennial border.
Pair Florentine Silk with soft pink Bearded Iris, lavender-purple Iris varieties, creamy white peonies, or pale peach perennial flowers for an elegant cottage garden combination.
The contrast between its warm peach-pink standards and cool purple falls makes Florentine Silk especially beautiful alongside pastel flowers and silvery-green foliage.
For a dramatic garden design, combine it with deeper burgundy and violet blooms to create a rich, jewel-toned planting.
Florentine Silk also makes a lovely cut flower. Harvest flowering stems when the first buds begin opening and enjoy their beautiful colors in fresh spring arrangements.
Maryland Gardeners: Florentine Silk Bearded Iris is well suited to many Maryland gardens, provided it receives plenty of sunlight and excellent drainage.
Because Maryland summers can be humid, give Bearded Iris good air circulation and avoid burying the rhizomes beneath thick layers of mulch. Proper spacing and drainage can help reduce problems with rhizome rot.
While this variety may rebloom in Maryland's Zone 6–7 conditions, the timing and reliability of a second flowering period can vary with summer weather, plant maturity, and care.
Important: Iris rhizomes and other plant parts can be toxic if ingested and may irritate skin. Keep planting material away from children and pets, and wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
