Plant in Fall for a Spectacular Spring Show!
For beautiful, fragrant blooms in early spring, plant your Narcissus Canaliculatus bulbs in the fall, typically September through November, before the ground freezes. In Maryland and other Zone 6–7 gardens, October through November is often ideal, once soil temperatures have cooled.
Planting Instructions:
- When to Plant: Fall, approximately 4–6 weeks before the ground freezes.
- Planting Depth: 3–4 inches deep, with the pointed end facing up.
- Bulb Spacing: 4–6 inches apart.
- Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade.
- Soil: Well-draining soil is essential to prevent bulbs from rotting.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to encourage root development. Keep soil lightly moist during active growth, avoiding soggy conditions.
- Bloom Time: Early spring.
Our Cottage Garden Tip: Plant Narcissus Canaliculatus bulbs in generous clusters rather than single rows for a natural, abundant display. Tuck them along garden paths, at the front of flower borders, or into decorative containers where their sweet fragrance can be enjoyed up close.
After flowering, allow the foliage to naturally turn yellow and die back before removing it. This helps the bulbs store energy for next year's blooms.
